The small size makes it perfect to take on the go, and the variety of paper textures makes this a one-of-a-kind book.
Size: 2.5" x 3.5"
Pages: 140
Style: Italian Longstich
Uses: journal, address book, travel companion
Binding:
This book was sewn with pink thread in the historical Italian Longstitch binding style, which allows the stitching to become a decorative element on the spine. Pages lay flat when open for easy journaling or sketching.
Cover:
Burgundy suede pants found in an Athens, Georgia, thrift store were upcycled into the cover for this journal. Decorative leather strips that zigzagged down the pant legs have been transformed into the tie that wraps and closes the book.
Papers:
The interior pages are made from a variety of white papers. Some are smooth, recycled papers. Some are highly textured with a woven feel. Others are shimmery and pearlescent. The pages are hand-torn, giving the edges of the book a natural feel. All sections of pages are wrapped with a strip of linen-textured, pearlescent paper for a decorative touch.

About the artist:
Katie Gonzalez studied the art of bookmaking in Cortona, Italy during the summer of 2006. Visiting a medieval bindery, working with luxurious materials, and learning to make paper by hand instilled a sense of traditional techniques into her work. She combines that background with her contemporary graphic design degree from the University of Georgia. She lives and works in East Nashville with her husband and her brindle bullmastiff.
