The Skyscape Quilt in Blue and Rust is inspired by the Kansas sky right after a thunderstorm when there are tiny breaks in the clouds and you can see pale blue peeking through. I use a very scientific method of dyeing my fabric based on weight of fabric and weight of dye to get accurate, reproducible results with minimal dye waste.
Materials and Care:
I use the highest quality quilter's cotton for my quilt tops, backs, and binding. The batting is Quilter's Dream 100% cotton batting.
I use fiber reactive MX dyes on cotton. The resulting colors are wash fast and relatively light fast, but should be kept out of direct sunlight.
My quilts are all machine washable and pre-shrunk. The dyes are color fast which means they won't bleed onto anything else and they won't run in the wash. Machine was cool water, tumble dry low. They can be ironed if you like a smooth quilt, but I like them fresh out of the dryer - all fluffy and warm.
Want a different size? I can make this quilt to fit any size bed. Contact me for details and pricing.
Note: The last image gives you an idea of the slight changes in color that are inherent in the hand dyeing process. The fourth image is my queen size skyscape quilt in yellow, purple, and green. Each quilt, though made of the same fabric and using the same dye recipes, will vary slightly.
