Whimsy is good for you.
This little fish was made for rocking!
How about giving him a home? He makes a great, amusing little companion on your desk. He would also make a fun, unique gift. Some of our customers like to use him as a paper weight.
These sell really fast at our summer art fairs and we often have a customer come back to add another fish or two to their collection. We also make birds and rabbits :o)
He is about 4.5 inches from nose to tail fin and about 2.5 inches tall.
We cut out and assemble the fish from slabs of clay.
After bisque firing , we draw the design on the clay with wax. Then glazes are hand applied and the rocking fish is raku fired. We make all of our glazes.
We place the rocker in a specially built raku kiln and heat it until the glaze has melted. Still glowing with intense heat, we remove it from the kiln. This thermal shock causes the glaze to crackle.
Then the rocker is placed into a container of sawdust. The sawdust ignites and produces a smoky atmosphere where carbon is absorbed into the unglazed clay and the crackled glaze.
Each piece has its own distinct crackle pattern and is unique in the way the carbon darkens the clay.
We personally design, handform, glaze and fire each one.
