This journal is the seventh in a series of original print covers on luscious Lokta paper (from Nepal). For this particular cover I made a linocut of a spikey spiral tree. The entirety of the front and back cover were first covered with dark purple Lokta paper. Then I printed the spiral tree on a rectangle of hand-torn red Lokta paper and added it to the cover. A bit of text was added just underneath and reads: "there are those who live here." The pages are hand-cut, rounded corners, with hand-dyed purple bookbinders thread. The Coptic style of stitch allows the book to open up flat, which is fantastic for writing and sketching!
