Stunning large gold Victorian pearl locket, no chain. The front has a beautiful Etruscan style design featuring scrolling protruding cutouts as well as clover and a horseshoe. A pearl (untested) serves as the focal point of the design. The piece opens on the right with the help of raised knobs to reveal two deep empty spaces inside. The locket closes securely with a quiet click, but does leave a very thin space where it doesn't rest perfectly flush (see 3rd photo). The backside is plain and the locket features a sizable attached loop at the top. This piece definitely has gold content, most likely rolled gold or gold plated, and has a very pleasing heft to it. No markings to confirm. Overall the piece is in very good condition for its age. Some dark tarnish from over the years, mostly on the front and inside of the piece. I didn't notice it right away, but one of the flower/clover shapes is missing from the right side of the top "banner" cutout leaving a small blackened spot. There are a couple small spots on back where the gold has worn down and a bit of gray metal is peeking through (see last photo). Measures 34mm x 20mm with some light scratches here and there as well as a pitted/worn appearance to the gold when closely examined. A rare and wonderful piece!
