This felted penny rug candle mat measures approximately nine inches in diameter. It is handmade in here at Heritage Farm in Vermont of all new wool in lovely purple shades. The background is a dark rich aubergine/eggplant and the pennies are varying shades of muted purples with a little plaid thrown in for good measure. I have used a pale lavender thread to blanket stitch the pennies together and also to the background. I have backed the piece with the same dark aubergine wool.
Creating Felted Penny Rugs is a traditional craft, most often using wool, dating from the 1800's.
