This sea urchin shell is hand and machine stitched, and is one of a kind. It measures roughly 3 1/2" across and is firmly stuffed with locally sourced alpaca fleece. The artist's initials are stitched on the underside.
Sea urchins range from the intertidal region to sometimes thousands of feet deep. When alive, they are covered in sharp spines, which they use to sense the world around them, both as eyes and fingers. They move easily over rocks and surfaces using their tube feet, and feed mainly on algae.
