I don't know what era this was made, but the label near the back collar says "Haltiwanger's, Columbia, S.C." This store no longer exists. An elderly woman in the consignment shop where I purchased this told me she used to shop there when she was a girl. I purchased this while visiting my mother last year, and hauled it all the way back to Chicago, because it's that special.
This is a very well made coat, and the tweed is perhaps the finest I've ever seen. Here is what the fabric label says (can be seen in picture #3):
"Dyed, Spun, Handwoven and Finished in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. 100% Virgin Scottish Wool. HAND WOVEN. Tailored by Harris Tweed Car-Shire Original. Label Attached by License from Harris Tweed Association Ltd." There's also a union label sewn into the coat.
Tweed color has an overall brown presence, but is a combination of cream, browns, teal, gold, orange and brick. The lining is a very lovely light green satiny material.
Can be worn with or without the matching belt that's included (this is shown side by side in picture #1). There are 2 front slit pockets with 2 faux patch flaps above them. Metal buttons and belt buckle. Hat is not included.
CONDITION
I can't stress enough how excellent the condition is. I'm not seeing any evidence of wear. Can't find any snags, pulls or moth issues in the wool, and the lining is mint. Coat is very clean -- there are dry cleaning tags attached to it and these are from the previous owner.
No size label. I think this will fit a small or possibly a medium best, but please compare measurements to a coat or jacket you already own.
MEASUREMENTS
Taken while garment is lying flat.
Shoulder to shoulder: 16 inches seam-to-seam, but on me for example, my shoulders hit just outside of this seam, and this looks and feels ok. Measuring an inch below the shoulder seam (the widest part of the shoulders), the measurement is 18 inches across. In other words, there is some flexibility in the shoulders to fit a small to medium build.
Sleeve: 23 inches
Armpit to armpit: 19 inches
Waist: 18 inches
Hips: 20 inches
Length: 41 inches
