The walls and base are made up of really thick green felt and genuine Harris tweed sourced during a visit to the Isle of Harris this summer. The beautiful blues of the wool blend perfectly with the soft shades of the felt and make a pretty surround for the little landscape.
Measures 5cm cubed.
The landscape is made using wet felted merino fibres with silk clouds. The tree is made with fibres from Orkney sheep. The wool is hand dyed on the Island and no two batts are ever the same. The sheep and tree are needle felted on by hand and a little bit of stitch adds detail.
The little heart locket and key weigh the lid down to keep it closed. As the box is textile, there will always be gaps around the edges of the lid.
I love making these little boxes and although there are similarities in the design, each one is different from the last. They are also in limited supply as I am very busy making new work for up coming shows.
Handmade in Scotland.
