The necklace measures 17" to 19" long because of its adjustable clasp (42-47 cm), and features a terrific mermaid pendant from Green Girl Studios. The pendant is made from Metal Clay, which is comprised of bronze in an organic binder. Once the clay is shaped, it is fired, and the organic binder burns away, leaving bronze behind.
The earrings are made of the semiprecious stone apatite, and all metal material used in the earrings is 14k goldfill (which is longer-wearing and more expensive than goldplate). I coil the wire around the connection points to make the earrings even more secure. The earrings are 1" long (24 mm) (starting from the top of the hook).
The necklace is made of freshwater pearls and apatite beads. All of the gold beads and the crimps are goldfill. The clasp is a handmade goldfill wire hook that fits into a goldfill chain which extends the length of the necklace for a custom fit.
The mermaid pendant is about 1 1/16" in diameter (27 mm).
The beads are strung on .019 Soft-Flex wire, which is very strong and supple.
In the waters the mermaids swim, singing their songs and weaving tales of woe for hapless sailors. The mermaid is a powerful symbol, beckoning for those to follow her into her waters to glimpse a new world.
