This ceramic teapot is made from earthenware clay and is glazed in a brilliant glossy red majolica glaze with white polka dots. This piece is my original design and was created entirely by hand in my ceramic studio. My process begins by handbuilding the original teapot from clay, then painstakingly creating a plaster mold of my original design so that multiples can be created. Each piece is slip cast from my original mold and the surface is carefully smoothed and finished by hand, then fired and sprayed with a layer of white majolica glaze, then fired again and sprayed with a bright red stain before it is fired a final time to a bright, glossy finish. The pattern is created by carefully applying latex resist in an exact pattern on the white majolica glaze before the red stain is applied, then the latex is removed to reveal the white glaze underneath. My process is long and meditative and results in fine artwork that is truly unique.
The teapot stands approximately 11 inches tall and would be a striking addition to your modern art collection. Please contact me for more information about my process or my art.
