Hand tools have been an integral part of knowing and building my world. My family built the house I grew up in out of adobe bricks, and like a family member, the house grew with time and went through numerous forms of growing pains. We also built furniture, chicken coups, tree houses and forts. We fixed our own cars and hand-plowed and tended our modest organic farm. Now an urban dweller, my roots provide a creative force for my work as a designer.
This piece honors the spirit/matter relationship through an illustrative love story between inanimate objects. It is about finding the extraordinary in the ordinary every day act of doing and making. Use as a dish rag or hang it on your wall as art. Either way, the hammers are ready to work or play!
Designed by Katya for KASI. Katya Crawford carefully seeks out the extraordinary in the ordinary by day, and designs in furious spurts by night. When she is not taking detours, snapping photos or scribbling in her moleskin she teaches landscape architecture courses at UNM.
