These were excavated out of the ground - the site must have once been a clothier because many clasps, button forms and buttons were found in this dig.
They would have been placed in the eyelet of the corset ~ which is a small hole on either side on the back used to lace up the corset. The French Holes were sewn into place, providing durability.
These French Holes were replaced by metal ones in 1830, so this collection obviously pre-dates that! They are all hand carved, of course.
You will receive one of these exceedingly rare treasures....They vary in size and colour. I have a few ivory and the rest are bone or wood. These are uncleaned (see photos). I will choose one that is whole, not one of the broken ones for you (the broken didn't want to be left out of the photo shoot and snuck in)
In general, they measure 3/8" and under. They would make facinating charms or curios.
