Description:
This Hand Stitched Blank Leather Book is crafted with 4 - 5 oz Genuine American Bison Leather and acid free parchment finished paper (same type of paper used for calligraphy). The paper is 60lb weight and natural color.
The back cover is extra long creating a flap which wraps around and over the front cover.
The edge is the unique natural outer edge of the hide. An antler round button and leather cord keep the book closed and secure.
This is a flexible soft bound book as no binding board is used for the cover.
-Leather color is antiqued burgundy
-Finished Book measures 11 1/2" x 9" x 1"
-250 pages of writing or sketching surface (125 sheets) of 11" x 8 1/2"
-Parchment finished paper is most commonly used for calligraphy which means there is no bleeding of the ink or bleed through the page to the other side
-Opens flat for ease of writing and/or sketching
Binding Technique:
The paper is collated in 4 sheets per section (signature) and hand folded for lay flat opening of the book. Each signature is handstitched to the preceeding signature creating the bookblock.
The bookblock is prepped for casing (being covered) by gluing the spine with pva glue for flexibility and strength.
Leather headband, tailband and satin page marker are added prior to gluing on the super which creates the hinge to attach the bookblock to the custom leather cover.
The prepped bookblock is then glued into the leather cover and finished by adding 80lb weight aged acid free parchment end sheets.
Of course, there is a bit of drying time in between all these steps. : )
The end product is a one-of-a-kind blank leather book hand bound with care!
