This late 1880s bodice is French from L. Alexandre in the Rue des Petits Champs. It‘s a wonderful textile - a light olive green silk twill weave with small chenille squares throughout. The front is double breasted with a deep neckline - there may have been a modesty piece here - and long fitted sleeves. The bodice buttons with figured brass ball buttons on top and brass hooks and loops underneath. The back has a smooth peplum to accommodate a small bustle. This is fully boned with a wide petersham waist band, and a silk interlining. The sleeves have simple beige silk taffeta cuffs. There are thread remnants that indicate a lace or trim was stitched on the inside of the neckline.

Condition: Very, Very good. Very crisp and fresh. A stain is visible on the right cuff band, otherwise the cuffs have light foxing. The buttons are replacements, but are of the period. One is missing at the hem.
