This is a single switchplate done in the mokume gane style - this means there are randomized appearing streaks and dribbles through-out the pattern caused by a disturbance to the stacked sheets of polymer clay and foil that I started with. In this case, the disturbing agent was a furniture cup - one of those cups with half-inch plastic teeth on the bottom that are intended to keep your furniture in one place on your carpets. After poking the toothed end into the clay stack, I took slices off of the top and sides, then laid these slices on a sheet of silver clay. Once I had smoothed out the resulting pattern, I applied it to both a single and a double switch plate. For sale here is the single one. There is an interesting illusion of depth with the foil and the metallic silver clay in some areas of the design.
The colors on the switch plate come only from the clay. Attachment screws have been painted red to blend in with the design. This switchplate would be a wonderful addition to any room in your home or office.
