This is the one and only original pastel painting of "The Satin Hat" by Sue Halstenberg, PSA. The size is 12¾" x 19¾", painted in 1991 in pastel and charcoal on Moonstone Gray French Canson paper
This painting is part of Sue's series of elegant sunlit Victorian era ladies, in lovely lace outfits and flower adorned fashionable hats. A friend of Sue's posed outside in sunlight for this pastel painting wearing actual vintage clothes to help bring this figure painting to life. Sue's delightfully delicate attention to detail and use of color creates this romantic realism that she is well-known for.
Sue Halstenberg began her career as a fashion illustrator for the Southern California department stores. To further expand her creative abilities as a fine artist, she studied plein air figure painting in pastels with George Carlson at Scottsdale Artists School in Arizona. A few years later she started her own business, accepting commissions for portrait and figure painting.
Her pastel painting “Victoria” was featured on the cover of American Artist Magazine and Sue was juried in as a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America, New York. Her work has been exhibited in many national art shows and received many awards.
Sue holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Her studio is in the beautiful Ojai Valley of California where she teaches drawing and painting.
