This is one of my first mixed media assemblage pieces and I hope you love it as much as I do.
The tone and colours of this piece and its companion were carefully created.
The lacy cotton crochet pieces {which were from a favorite sweater of mine I no longer wore and saved for a project just like this} I stained with coffee and let them dry in the sun. When they were completely dry, after painting a layer of white paint onto the stretched canvas I set the cotton lace into place. Then I painted a layer of gesso over the entire canvas and added a third and final layer of random brush strokes of white and parchment coloured paint.
There are over one hundred paper blooms with pearl bead centers ~ in all shades of soft creamy whites ~ between this piece and its companion piece "Dancing With The Stars." Each paper flower is glued in place in three layers and cascade onto the sides of the canvas.
The edges of the lacy cotton knit also flow onto the sides of the canvas, so that absolutely no framing is necessary for this twelve inch square gallery wrapped canvas.
Vintage velvet and silk millinery flowers, hand dyed French seam binding, retro pearl clip earrings, and seam binding I even scrunched up and dyed myself using coffee are some of the lovely embellishments used on this art.
This was such a fun piece to make. I hope you will take it home with you!
