The clasp, is a TURN KEY locking mechanism, and only opens, when you turn and flip the key. Being in the locked position, when the words are facing you on the pull key. Do not force it open. If it doesn't open for you the first time, flip the key again, and it should be in the open position. When it is unlocked, the words "TURN LOCK" are facing the purse. The frame at one time was a gold gilt over brass, which has faded, and come off with time and wear, and has left the original brass frame showing, with a beautiful, aged patina.
The purse measures about 7 1/2" tall, down the center, including the top of the frame clasp, 6 3/8" wide, and about 1" deep, from front to back. Handle is about 13" long. The suede interior used, with signs of tarnish, and the 2 pockets are starting to curl at the edges. The edges of the pockets were just a bit of raw suede, turned under, for a small hem, and they are turning back upwards, from use. A little glue to keep them back down, will do the trick, if this should bother you.. A lovely addition to any antique purse collection.
