This huge vase is made from Cherry from Kingston, NY. It is was constructed with cherry, epoxy, black epoxy, black lacquer, gold acrylic and clear lacquer. The design is created by about 3000 depressions carved into the face with an air powered dentist drill. The vase was sprayed black and the depressions were filled with gold acrylic paint. The whole vase was then top coated with many coats of high gloss clear lacquer. The top coat lacquer was sanded to 12000 grit and then hand polished. It has a car-hood like finish.
Inside of the vase is clear finished cherry so you can still see it is actually wood. Wall thickness averages less than 1/4”. This stunning piece is 22' Tall x 11”wide. At almost 2 feet tall, this piece will be impressive on any table!
This vase won 2nd place in the Open Turning Competition at the 2008 Northeast Woodworkers Showcase in Saratoga, NY.
This item will be shipped in a plywood box rather than a card bard box because of the size and nature of the piece.
