"The Brin"
Brin was a roller derby queen before all of this happened, unleashing atomic wedgies to those who got in her way. Now she sat in the rubble with fabric wrapped tightly around her aching knees, wearing one tattered Converse sneaker and one skate with 3 rusted metal wheels. Her black hair ratted and garnished with dead leaves, her body appeared limp and lifeless leaning there against the wall. I approached her and offered her a drink from Charlene’s canteen, wondering how in the world she still managed to be wearing that red lipstick. I must have fallen asleep, as it was now dark and growing windy and cold. I pulled a blanket out of my bag and spread it out over Brin and myself, asking her if she felt up to going to look for some food. When I received no answer, I realized that she was no longer alive. I buried her in a shallow grave nearby and set off for food with her backpack in hand. Later, when looking through the bag, I found some faded family photos, a long dead cell phone, a tube of forever wear red lipstick and this gorgeous burgundy long sleeved top. Thanks Brin, I'll bet you looked great in this shirt. Rest in peace my friend.
