War rugs have become highly collectible. Warrug.com is a wonderful resource for finding out about the different styles and approximate ages of these rugs. The closest one I found to this one: http://www.warrug.com/warrugs/styles.php?idr=40. The info describes it as Baluchi from around 1996, but it could be older as this style has been around since the 1980's.
The map of Afghanistan is in the middle with bordering countries and provinces spelled out. Grenades, helicopters, AK47s, guns, tanks and an airplane.... the stuff we have seen on the news for so long now.
This has been completely handwoven out of wool with a cotton warp.
