This 8 x 10 inch clothbound book is 120 pages long and indeed comprehensive -- it includes an index of beginning lines and titles at the back of the book. There are 5 color plate illustrations and a large number of wonderfully charming pen-and-ink illustrations scattered through the book.
This book was published by Reilly and Lee and has a 1921 copyright, but I think it's an older reprinting -- maybe from later on in the 1920's. The first edition had 11 or 12 color plates and this printing has a fewer number, something often seen in later printings of illustrated books.
However, the lower number of color plates should not deter you, for the pen-and-ink illustrations are insanely cute and more than able to entertain you, in addition to reading some retro and classic versions of classic fables, rhymes, folk tales and songs. This book is rare in any format and a great find!
BOOK CONDITION
The hardcover exterior is in good condition, with some rubbing around and on the pastedown illustration. There is a bit of wear and fraying around the spine and only a small amount of bumping at the tips.
There is some cracking along the spine at the front and back endpapers, but all the pages are securely attached and the spine seems in good condition. There is an inscription on the "This book belongs to" page, but no other marks or signatures. The pages are age-tanned and there is a bit of an old book smell (NOT musty -- just an old paper smell.) I noted very few instances of spotting and virtually no closed tears. The interior of this book is in good, solid condition.
