My friend carefully picked this wool from an organic sheep farm in the eastern Finland. Then the locks were machine carded by a small carding company in Finland. After that I handwashed the batt and then hand dyed it with acid dyes. Finally I hand carded the batt with my Strauch Finest Standard drum carder. I call this colorway "jewels". Of all the sheep wools I have seen, this is one of the softest.
RARE BREED - GREY FINNSHEEP
This wool is from the breed called Grey Finnsheep, also called as Kainuu Grey or Kainuun Harmas. It is a different breed from commonly known Finnsheep. It is a rare breed which has finer fur than the ordinary Finnsheep. Grey Finnsheep are usually seen in different shades of grey and with black face and feet. Some are born greyish white as the baby sheep this wool is from.
Me and my friend want to keep the sheep breed alive by processing and selling this fine wool bred by the farmers from our childhood area.
