I created this digital watercolor of a bear in his pajamas, who is spending his hibernation with a stack of books, in Corel Painter. If you look closely, you'll see that the bear has a companion - at the far end of the bed is a little mouse with his own pillow and stack of wee books. My illustration was influenced by a lot of artists of the 1950s and 60s but especially by Richard Scarry. The quotation on the bookmark is by Mason Cooley who was an English professor at Columbia University. It reads "Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are." I felt it was the perfect quote to go with my illustration of a bear and friend who are staying indoors for the winter.
The bookmark measures approximately 2 inches by 6.75 inches. The image is printed on a matte presentation inkjet paper that, after printing, it was hand-trimmed and laminated.
A great gift for the reader in the family or for that special friend who loves books. It would also look great sticking up out of a Christmas stocking!
