The back is hollow This doll part is handmade in raku clay and fired with reduction. The process involves removing the glowing hot (1856 degrees) item from the kiln and placing it in a chamber filled with flammable material . When the hot clay hits the leaves and paper it ignites the paper and then the lid is sealed for 12 minutes to allow the magic to happen. The result is a metallic iridescence in the the glaze.
