The head is Brazilian Rosewood and the handle is American Hickory. The head is laminated to accommodate a lead weight to add heft. This is not designed to be used on other than wood, it's an elegant assembly tool and perhaps argument ender :). For furniture assembly, I have added a piece of thin leather to the face to keep it from marring the furniture. If you would like that on your hammer, let me know and I'll add it, free of charge.
The finish is 3 coats of an oil/varnish blend, something that's easily renewed about annually to keep glue and such from soaking in.
