This carved stone letter opener was made in Mexico sometime prior to the 1970's. I'm not sure what kind of stone was used, but I believe it's onyx. The blade is marked "HECHO EN MEXICO" and "STERLING", but the impression is very poor and incomplete. For the word "Sterling", only the tops of the letters are there. However, I do guarantee that the blade is, in fact, sterling silver. The blade is also marked with the maker's initials, "T.V.E." The piece is in very good condition, with no chips or cracks in the stone, and just a few nicks on the edge of the blade. It measures 6-3/4" long overall; the stone portion is 2-7/8" x 1-1/4".
