Kali is the fearful and ferocious form of the mother goddess. She is depicted as having born from the brow of Goddess Durga during one of her battles with the evil forces.
As the legend goes, in the battle, Kali was so much involved in the killing spree that she got carried away and began destroying everything in sight. To stop her, Lord Shiva threw himself under her feet. Shocked at this sight, Kali stuck out her tongue in astonishment, and put an end to her homicidal rampage. Hence the common image of Kali shows her in her mêlée mood, standing with one foot on Shiva's chest, with her enormous tongue stuck out.

Kali is a symbol of dissolution and destruction. She destroys ignorance, maintains the world order, and blesses and frees those who strive for the knowledge of God. In the Vedas the name is associated with Agni, the god of fire, who had seven flickering tongues of flame, of which Kali was the black, horrible tongue. This meaning of the word has meanwhile been replaced by the goddess Kali, the grim consort of Shiva.

Her appearance is fearsome: baleful eyes, a protruding tongue, and four arms. In her upper left hand she wields a bloody sword and in her lower left hand she holds the severed head of a demon. With her upper right hand she makes the gesture of fearlessness, while the lower right hand confers benefits. Draped around her is a chain of severed human heads and she wears a belt made of dismembered arms.

This box was hand painted and adorned. Made from a wooden cigar box.

Acrylic paint, paper images, glass beads, glitter all make this a perfect box for keeping your dreams and wishes in.
This box is bigger and heavier than my other boxes. The wood is more dense and there are a great many more glass beads on it.

Kali is a heavy handed Goddess and this box may not be for everyone. When you call upon her to help be sure of the cost. She will remove the blockage or enemy. But the price will be high. She is also good for facing the thing in yourself that are dark and painful. She is a Goddess of Death, Sex and Change. To enlist her help put the things you wish into the box and let Kali help you along.

Perfect gift for a tarot reader to keep their cards in, Kali will guard them well.

Bottom is felted. Latch and hinges are sound.

Also works very nicely for keeping precious things in.
