The curtains of the ornate window are pulled aside to reveal the moon (a beautiful 6mm blue flash rainbow moonstone) sparkling on the ocean. A faceted ruby to represent Mars. This pendant is reversible, as there is a kite on the back side.
I gave the pendant a rainbow patina, and then buffed the high points to highlight the detail.
The necklace consists of oxidized sterling silver wrapped red coin pearls, incredible faceted rainbow moonstones, and ruby rondelles.
This dramatic necklace is 18 1/2 inches long with a 1/2 inch extender, with the pendant adding another 1 5/8 inch. The pendant measurements are 44mm x 34mm x 2.5mm.
Finished with a hand wrought swirly hook clasp.
Made for the Sea and Sky Metal Clay Heads team challenge.
A note on precious metal clay:
ArtClay silver is a recycled product that consists of fine silver particles suspended in an organic binder. The clay can be worked like other forms of clay, sculpted to almost any shape you desire. The product is then fired at an extremely high temperature, either by kiln or torch. The binder burns away resulting in a pure silver (.999) piece.
