This antique comforter blanket in the style of a tied quilt is grand. Sweet floral feedsack style red fabric on one side for nana, grey-blue and black geometric mock plaid cotton for grandad on the other side. I love them both.
Tied with blue yarn (tufts on the blue side) this old time comforter has a secret! Prior to this incarnation, it lived a full life as a completely different quilt... take a peak at photograph #4 where I nosed my camera lens inside a small pulled section of the seam. Inside there you can see a creamy antique fabric with pink berries and grey-black flowery leaves. In an era of waste-not want-not when the blanket got a bit worn or perhaps went out of style, some industrious (probably) lady just sewed up a new outer layer and added the tufts.
The quilt measures approximately 48" x 62" so it is meant for a single bed or child's bed with hang over at the edges, but fits nicely sideways along the lower half of a bigger bed. It is nice and thick, and has a little lumpiness in the cotton batting. There is some pale staining that is visibly quite lost in the red print of the fabric, and a couple of weency (a few threads across) holes in that side as well, that I noticed when I looked over it very closely. Overall it is in gorgeous condition, it's quite heavy and cozy, and would make a lovely blanket to keep near the couch where you read, or to keep folded for guests, sitting out on an old wooden trunk.
