Hartley's has beeen around since 1871 - I think this one is from the turn of the century. It is very rare to have the original paper label, with the maker's logo of an illustrated red waxed seal with a lighthouse in the center.
The jar is grayish-creamish color (it is made of clay), and the paper label has red, orange and green accent colors. the bottom of the crock is incised with "Not genuine unless bearing the Wm P. Hartley's Label M".
The jar is 3" diameter and is 4" high. Makes a great pencil, toothbrush or utensil holder.
