The 1950's were a prolific time in electronic equipment and photography equipment. Hooray for innovation! The Plainville, Connecticut based Kalart corporation had positioned itself as the "World's largest manufacturer of speed flash synchronizers and synchonized range finders" from their inception in 1926
This particular flash was released to the market in 1953 and was a hot item (no pun intended) and the Kalart products were available all over the world in over 100 countries.
That all came to an end in mid-1989 when Kalart bowed out the market. The Washington Post commented at the time: "Kalart Victor Corp., which makes movie projectors, educational television products, audio visual and film editing equipment, plans to close its plant today."
"The only surviving American maker of 16-millimeter movie projectors is calling it quits, a victim of Japanese competition and the proliferation of videocassette recorders."
This vintage camera flash is just plain awesome. So, own a piece of American ingenuity, a symbol of greater times and growth in the homeland, 36 year before their closure.
Condition: Box is intact, save for a tear in the corner of the cover. Back cover entirely intact. No bulb. No instruction booklet, but otherwise complete.
As with all vintage camera items this Kalart Flash is sold as-is.
