H.J. Ford illustrated Lang's fairy books, and he has a huge number of illustrations in this book: Eight full-page color plates, 35 full-page black-and-white illustrations, and 8 illustrations within the text. The cover of the book is also similar to the fairy books, and has a beautiful gilded design -- this one of Lancelot with two angels hovering alongside him. The book is 6.75 x 7.75 and 384 pages long.
What a fantastic gift this would be for someone who collects Arthurian legend books, or for the lover of early 19th century artwork and the art nouveau style!
BOOK CONDITION
The blue hardcover exterior is in very nice condition. The gilded design on the front and on the spine is very clean and bright. There is some rubbing at the edges of the spine and bumping at the tips, but it is relatively minor.
The interior shows no inscriptions, markings, rips or tears. The spine is a bit cocked, and as a result, there is some cracking at the spine at the very beginning of the book. The frontpiece color plate of Lancelot and Guenevere is detached to about 2/3 of the way down the picture, as is the vellum protective paper between the illustration and the title page. The remaining pages are soundly attached.
