365 Animal Stories, a spectacular and very hard to find Golden Pleasure Book by Paul Hamlyn, printed in 1968 (1st ed.) in Czechoslovakia by Svoboda. The little illustrations are all just the best in 1950s and 60s style, drawn by Porter G., Hilda Offen, Pradera, Esme Eve, Alan Jesset, and Richard Hooke.
The Golden Book of 365 Stories is not a first edition, it is a 1981 reprint, but is special because of the illustrations by Richard Scarry. It was originally printed in 1955 and has some wonderful little tales, appropriate for the season and, like the other book, arranged with a date on each story, so you read them one a day.
The books are in similar condition with some flaws. The pages are all in excellent condition, but there is a missing dustjacket, some marks on the covers, written message to a gift recipient, and some pulling or light tearing where the covers meet the pages. These often sell for upwards of $80 to $100 but they are too wonderful to be perfect collectibles on a shelf... read them and enjoy them with your children or some children that you love, as they have been for many years.
Each one is 8.5" x 11" and together they are nearly 2" thick, and very heavy.
