These owls were inspired by the brightly painted clay owls made in Southern Mexico. They are hand crafted out of wool felt from my original pattern and painstakingly detailed with embroidery floss, scraps of felt, sequins, and vintage glass beads from my abuelita's bead box. Each owl features an "owl skull" tummy panel with sequined detailing as a nod to the sugar skulls that are so emblematic of the Mexican Day of the Dead.
Owls are completely blanket-stitched for longevity and bottom-weighted with non-toxic, poly-fil pellets. They stand on their own without any problems and the wings will stay open if you choose to display them that way. Small parts (and the delicate nature of hand embroidery) make them unsuitable for children under the age of 10.
Each owl stands 7.5" (18.5 cm) tall and measures 4.25" (10 cm) across at the widest point. The last photo in the series is included to convey a sense of scale. (I regret that that particular owl is not for sale-- I need him to guard my books).
