Great gift for Him! Aurochs bull engraving, Lascaux Cave art on river stone/rock. Perfect to display in a man cave or on his desk (it makes a fascinating paperweight), table, window sill or shelf.

This permanently engraved, naturally smoothed stone comes from the mysterious Wapona Kira Archaeological site. You can read more about the site and the origin of Brijoli stones in our listing for the original Brijoli design:
http://www.etsy.com/listing/87936346/engraved-bull-stone-river-rock-art?ref=v1_other_1

The Brijoli planted new stone art in the archaeological pits each night while the scientists slept, for the scientists to "discover" the next day. At first, the Brijoli only left stones decorated with their own traditional designs. Then, one night, the Brijoli found an archaeology book that one of the scientists had left about. They discovered pictures in the book of petroglyphs, cave paintings, and other rock art from around the world. From then on, the playful Brijoli left stones decorated with designs representative of the four corners of the Earth.

This stone's design comes from the Lascaux Cave in France. Just inside the cave lies the Hall of the Bulls. This chamber is about 20 meters long with 130 of the most striking of all Palaeolithic works of art covering about 30 uninterrupted meters on the two sides of the hall. White calcite walls help to show off the saturation of the colors and fine details of many animal paintings, including 17 horses, 11 cows and bulls, 6 deer and a bear (Oh My!).

Of particular note, there is an amazing representation of an aurochs (a primitive species of longhorn cattle) situated high on the farthest space where the wall is almost 60° off the vertical. Almost every anatomical detail is depicted: the very striking horns, the parted poll, the hide, and the prominent sex. The aurochs bull is shown as an outline, with the upper parts painted by brush and the lower contours applied with blown pigments.

The Brijoli based the design of this particular smooth, dark stone on that impressive aurochs. No paints or pigments are used. The image was created by a micro-pecking process. Pecking is an amazingly simple yet arduous procedure that required thousands of precision surface fractures to permanently create this lightly textured symbol of power and virility.

This stone was chosen for its color, smooth texture, shape and size. This particular stone is a comfortable size, sits nicely in the palm of your hand, and feels good against your skin.

Your stone has been packed in archaeologist's excelsior and "crated" at the original Wapona Kira Archaeological site. The "crate" appears to have been transshipped through Egypt, France, and Germany to help preserve the secrecy of the site's location, and it will be shipped to you from a location somewhere in the United States.

Ships Priority Mail within the US so a tracking number can be provided, allowing you to monitor the crate on the final leg of its journey to your door. If you prefer Parcel Post, convo before purchasing for revised shipping cost. First class is used for Canadian destinations.
