At Green Glasss Designs, Doug & I, have been recycling, repurposing and reusing wine, beer and soda bottles for a few years now. Like all of our products, we don't offer them to you, unless we think the quality is far above average...that's why we try to put close up photos of the items we create. We WANT you to look closely at our craftsmanship, and attention to detail.
Getting the smooth, matte egde on the chimes takes a few steps, but we are pretty darn sure it is worth it. After cleaning and cutting the bottles we grind the edge of the newly created glass section smooth (this takes a couple of changes in grinding discs), then we bevel the outside edge of each bottle. Finally, we polish the edges to a soft matte finish and give them another thorough cleaning before recapping and stringing them onto a leather cord.
These chimes are beautiful indoors or out. HOWEVER, If you are going to put them outside please be sure to put them in a covered/protected area (after all they are glass!).
