I used the brick stitch technique to create this bracelet, layering row upon row of seed beads in various shapes and sizes in a simple repeating pattern. Colors include white, beige, black, olive, emerald, turquoise and navy blue. The nature of the beadwork creates a slightly staggered edge, and I increased the natural look by adding the occasional increase or decrease for a more rustic finish. The ends of the beadwork are topped with simple scalloped loops, and finished with a beaded button and loop clasp in matching colors.
Dimensions: The bracelet is 2 cm (0.8 inches) wide, and 17.3 cm (6.8 inches) long, including the clasp. When the clasp is secured, the bracelet has an inside circumference of about 16.5 cm (6.5 inches). The beaded button measures 1.6 cm (0.6 inches) across.
I tried to capture a bit of Egyptian or Mediterranean flair with this piece, by combining simple stripes with a variety of cool shades and colors. The brick-like beadwork rows also resemble woven patterns such as rugs or baskets, which adds to the exotic look.
Materials used in this cuff include high quality Japanese glass seed beads, and a pressed Czech glass druk bead for the button base. I weave all of my jewelry with durable fused nylon thread, which provides lasting strength and consistent beadwork shapes.
This one of a kind design comes wrapped in tissue, packed securely with clean, repurposed bubble wrap or foam sheet, and shipped in a durable Canada Post cushion mailer.
