This hat is made from 100% extra fine merino wool by Zegna Baruffa--it's actually called Cashwool because its softness rivals cashmere. It's been washed and is beautiful, soft and ready to wear. My hats fit the average woman's head size of 21"-23"
I knit my hats by hand but not in the traditional way. I knit Intarsia, Fairisle, Tuck and Slip stitch designs on a knitting machine. I have three and the newest one is about 35 years old--you can see two of them in the last pic. Knitting by hand on the machine is different from knitting on needles in that I knit my hats in long flat rectangular shapes and seam the two ends together so there is a back and a front to the hat. It's no big deal as you can see in picture 2 (also, you won't be able to see it unless you have eyes in the back of your head and x-ray vision) but I just wanted you to know so there are no surprises.
Because this is a Fairisle design there are "floats" of yarn inside the hat where the colors switch. They don't affect wearability unless you happen to wear pointy things in your hair--then I'd say, just be careful.
