Sorry, this item sold. Have bittersweetdesign make something just for you, or try these other items:
This design is woven with two ribbons and the tabs are lengthwise, rather than side by side in the other style of collar. It has all of the features of the wider collars: cute, strong, grosgrain ribbons (ends are heat sealed), a D-Ring to clip a leash to, and the same sturdy clasp.
So here it is - A better scaled size for your smaller dog or for your cat! YAY!!
I have been selling my Tab Top bracelets for a couple of years now, and at a Spring show a customer asked if I would make one into a dog collar. I said "Of course"!
This lead me to make one for my medium size Pit Bull Mix, Cali, and to give the design a run for the money. I have re-engineered the design somewhat - and am pleased with the more durable results that you see here.
I was so pleased that I thought I should enter the ETSY/Green is Universal contest - and GO FIGURE! Not only was I in the TOP TEN - I was in the TOP FIVE! http://www.greenisuniversal-reuse.com/contest-rules I was SO PUMPED!!!
I sent two of these collars of to NYC - they were featured on the TODAY SHOW on Tuesday April 19, 2011 How cool is this?
Clean tab tops from soda and beer cans are woven with ultra durable polyester grosgrain ribbon. A durable snap link closes the collar, while a welded D ring provides a place to hang ID, and to hook a leash.
The collar starts with 2 lengths of ribbon tied (double knotted knot is epoxied) to a single row of tab tops smooth faces out. Then the tab tops are interwoven back to back (no edges exposed) with two strands of durable, non fade, grosgrain (plain or printed) 1/4" wide ribbon to the desired length. The ribbon is then double knotted (again - the knot is epoxied) to the snap link. The durable snap link closes the collar. For a collar requiring a leash - a D ring is included halfway through the weaving process (opposite of where the collar closes). For a smaller, shorter collar, a smaller D ring (if needed) is used.
These collars can be made for any size pet requiring a collar - for use with or without a leash. I have tested mine on my dog Cali and it works like a charm! When dirty - wash with some soap and water. I use some dish soap on an old toothbrush to scrub the ribbon - my dog Cali, runs through our pasture, rolls in the dirt and grass, & noses around under our one chicken pen. You can imagine that she gets pretty dirty at times. She has had the same collar since my daughter's prom in May, [they had 'matching' jewelry (teehee)]. I have scrubbed it clean more than once since then - and it still looks great!

ALL OF THIS SAID - I WOULD NOT recommend this type of collar for Kittens or Puppies for two reasons: They are a 'fixed' collar - and therefore NOT adjustable, as well as being 'fixed' - it means they DO NOT have a safety release. Puppies and kittens tend to be too rambunctious and would be better off in a safety release type of collar.
and in a great RE-USE treasury by JessieKatz:
I realize this is a lengthy description - but I also wanted to let you know that all of the proceeds for these collars will be used to pay for the previous care of our Pit Bull mix, Cali.
Abandoned as a pregnant puppy, in March of 2009, Rachel and Oliver found Cali chewing cheese off a pizza box at a paper mill/recycling facility. She had just delivered her puppies - they couldn't find them - but she was so emaciated, that later the vet said they probably all died at birth.
Rachel and Oliver took her home - and took care of her. They paid to have her spayed, gave her special care and fed her for 7+ months. Unfortunately - they couldn't keep her. They already had a dog - a 10 year old German Shepherd that didn't want a puppy around. So they had to keep Cali in a stall in their barn. It wasn't perfect but would work for at least the warmer months.
They weren't going to take her to the local shelter - because their state has a 'immediate kill' policy for all dogs that even resemble a Pit Bull - and she was the sweetest dog ever. Finally in September of 2009, they were able to get her story posted to the Best Friends website. My friend Jennifer saw her there - forwarded the info to us - and the rest is history.
We have the sweetest, dearest dog in the world. Rachel and Oliver were only looking for a good home for sweet Cali. They were so selfless in their care for a dog that so desperately needed love and hope. They never asked to be compensated for all of their expenses - but we would like to help them out.
100% of your purchase of this collar will go to fund the 'gift' to Rachel and Oliver. After this is complete - A portion of each sale will go to our local shelter - as well as a Pit Bull Rescue group.
