I'm really excited about the evolution of this new series ... Steel Metal Clay combined with Fossilized Bone, BronzClay, gemstones and artisan lampwork beads. When I first heard of Base Metal Clays, this was exactly the type of work I had in mind ... both rugged and organic, but used in a very contemporary expression.
The Urban Primitive Boro Portal Pendant was inspired by a section of antique Japanese Boro cloth and is a one-of-a-kind bold statement of a piece. The focal point of the necklace is portal rolled and pinched from a thick piece of Steel Metal Clay, the edges rolled and nudged, textured with a worm ridden shard of abalone. After firing the steel, bronze dots were inlaid and the piece was re-fired. Stacked above the portal is a beautiful chunk of fossilized bone that I've drilled, accented with pinched discs and a cube of bronze and steel; the steel cube is also inlaid with bronze.
This beautiful cairn hangs from a hand-plied 36" length of black Japanese silk. The necklace adjusts down to 17" with two sliding knots, accented with fobs of steel, a KVK tag and a small nugget of fossilized bone. The focal pendant total length is just under 4".
Urban Primitive speaks to the primeval self that resides in the 21st century human. Strikingly cool, bold, minimal and distinct, industrial organic, the Urban Primitive Boro Portal Pendant will arrive tucked into an eco-friendly pillow box cushioned with paper excelsior and indigo tissue paper, scented with rose petals all tied up with recycled sari silk ribbon.
Ready to go as a splendid gift for yourself or an unexpected gift for someone special. And as always ... beautifully crafted, spirited, jewelry for your soul.
Embrace the inner primitive.
