VERY UNIQUE LAUNDRY COMPARTMENT
Constructed of a hefty hand tooled decorated leather over wood.. Very unique and interesting inside lid compartment used for storing laundry and the trunk doubled as a seat.. Please reference photo of "Antique Trunks Identification & Price Guide" by Linda Edelstein and Paul Pat Morse pg 14.
EXCERPT FROM BOOK:
"Soft top, leather-covered trunk. This early trunk is entirely handmade and features an unusual soft leather top. It has unique brass tack decoration common to the period, and has hand-forged iron handles, lock, and latch. It has a leather lip to protect from dust, and originally had two additional leather straps that wrapped around the body from back to front. The soft top allows for a laundry compartment accessed through the inside of the lid. When the lid was stuffed with laundry, the top of the trunk was cushioned and doubled as a seat. This is a rare trunk. "
