Classic 1950's or 1960's design. Unusual smokey eggplant coloured glass with images of the lagoon of Venice, gondolas, basilicas and the Doge's Palace.
Nice quality; looks to be hand blown and decorated with gold, part transfer print, part hand painted. Nicely styled too: graceful bell shape to the decanter and rounded interiors to the glasses. The gold decor has faded a bit to a nice patinated silvery colour. I love the shape of the hollow stopper: mimics the the tops of the stripey mooring / water level poles seen on the canals of the watery city!
The decanter measues 9" high including the stopper. Holds just under one half litre or about 1 U.S. pint. The glasses are 2.25" high.
A superb set for serving up your favourite tipple, be it grappa, limoncello, or any other liqueur.
Salute!
