This little plate is hand built from a rolled slab of speckled brown stoneware clay and I've pressed into it a crocheted doily that gives it a rich texture for the glaze to play up. It is glazed in a speckled tan glaze which is a light tan on the surface of the stamped areas and a creamy color where it pools in the recesses. Speckles from the clay show through as well, giving it an added richness to the surface. It is unglazed on the underside but is smooth. I do the final roll of the underside on a smooth piece of muslin so the final fired surface is not rough.
The plate is about 5 1/4 inches across and about 1/2 inch tall. It has many uses: soap dish, trinket dish, spoon rest and because the glaze is food safe it can be a fun snack or cookie plate.
Fired to cone 6 in an electric kiln. Food and dishwasher safe.
