This rare and elegant brass ship’s wheel was manufactured by the Rosebank Ironworks in Edinburgh, Scotland for Brown Bros & Co Ltd during the early 1900’s.
Made entirely of solid brass with teak handles, this exquisite piece once sat at the helm of a vessel in a long ago world where large steamships and liners were once commonplace in harbors and at sea. With an impressive diameter of 30.5” and a weight of 15 lb’s, the wheel holds quite a presence.
From Scotland, we know that at some point this handsome gem arrived in Boston, as it hung in the bar in the famous television series Cheer’s (Look at some of the older episodes)!
This is a handsome piece of nautical and television history. May someone enjoy its charm as much as I have over the years…!
