As a child and adolescent, I marveled at some of my friends' ability to do artwork, and I have always loved playing with colour, but whenever I tried drawing, painting, or anything else, the results seemed childlike and displeased me. I wanted my art to make ME feel, and I couldn't seem to do that with paint of any kind, pencil crayons, or traditional pastels. Then I discovered photography and was delighted to have a way to express myself artistically in a visual way.
One day, I wandered into an art store, and started trying out the pastels. The first I picked up were Sennelier soft pastels, and from the first touch of the stick to the paper, I was in love. The smoothness and richness was unparalleled by anything I had ever used before. The extremely expensive box of 40-half sticks beckoned to me, and after several more sojourns into the store to stare at them longingly, I finally purchased them.
Finally, I had a medium I could work with that produced art that was beautiful to me! I love the feel of Sennelier, and I love blending the colours with my fingers. Creating these works comes effortlessly to me. I've never taken an art class, and know very little about technique - I just do what comes naturally, whatever produces an effect I like, and I keep experimenting. I just love playing with colour.
I am a graduate student in Toronto currently studying classical singing as well as music & the brain. I am hoping to get accepted into a PhD Clinical Psychology program, but art need always be a part of what I do!
