I painted this oil painting, titled "All That Jazz" on canvas in 1988. (Oh my! Does that make this a vintage work?) At that time I was studying human anatomy at the (then) Alberta College Of Art in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. To supplement my in-class model sessions, I also sketched/painted at as many live stage rehearshals and performances as possible (I also drew cadavers at the Foothills Teaching Hospital, but that's another story.) This painting is the result of one of the sketching sessions at either the Jubilee Theater or one of the several others that were in Calgary at the time.

Although this work is painted on stretched canvas, I unstretched the completed painting years ago to make it easier to store safely. Typically unstretched canvases are rolled (painted side out) but I was able to store this work flat. Eventually I decided to mat the painting and that is how it is being offered here. Presented in this way, it can be mistaken for a work on paper. But a closer look and you see the texture of the canvas and the slight rolled edge at the upper left perimeter.

"All That Jazz" captures the mood of a performance when singer and musicians blend and overlap each other to create a third and unique presence.

Another interesting aspect to this painting is that about 15 years after creating it I used it as a reference when I painted a mural commission for Whitman College's Student Center. Here is a link to photos and information about the mural:

Image size: 12 x 17 1/2 inches
Mat outside dimensions: 19 x 26 inches
Double matted with a 1/4 inch white inner mat and pale lilac outer mat complements the painting's warm tones. The matted painting is shrink-wrapped and will be shipped flat with bubble-wrap in a sturdy container.

Shipping cost includes packaging. If you want to purchase this work along with another item or items from my shop, please email to tell me what works you are interested in and I can calculate a single shipping cost for you.
