The luck of the draw concept, working successfully, was the catalyst for designing the “Job Jar” , back in 1998. Bottom line … You pick it. You own it.
People always ask me how I came up with the Chore Charts and Job Cards … honestly … they represent ALL of the jobs that I was *doing myself.
*This is no time to judge me. I was a classic enabler. My daughter didn’t dress herself until she was 6.
Although, I will not guarantee that people still won’t start throwing themselves around … all we can do is hope for the best:)
Gathered the family around the dinner table that night and handed out a Chore Chart for each of the kids (ages 5 & 11). I was a little surprised how excited they were and watched them immediately put their name on their respective charts
Everyone had a chance, including my husband to pick one of the pre-selected “Job Cards” out of the “Job Jar” and the kids added those additional household chores to their “Chore Charts.”
We discussed allowance, rewards and the points that it would take for them to earn those fabulous prizes. Jotted that down on the Reward Center and posted it alongside the “Chore Charts” on the fridge.
That first week I watched my family … banish dust bunnies, feed the dogs everyday, clean out the garage, rake leaves, jackets hung, homework done, backpacks put away, teeth brushed, beds made and the kitchen sink never looked so good.
Committed to 21 days and amazed that many, not all, of the chores had started to become a habit … what more could a mother ask for?
JUST KEEP IN MIND ... rewarding behavior, while teaching the habit of becoming responsible, is the 2nd most important part of this learning process. The1st is trying to remember that no one cleans like you do! Lighten up and see the good in the work.

• One (1) PDF 8 1/2" x 11" document that is formatted with two (2) Chore Charts, side by side. All you have to do is print, cut, name, add additional jobs (this is where the Job Cards come in) decide on rewards with their values and off you go.
• One (1) PDF 8 1/2" x 11" document that is formatted with two (2) Reward Centers. All you have to do is print, cut, name and decide on the Awards and their values each week.
* One (1) PDF 8 1/2" x 11 document with a "Job Jar" logo to print out, as a label to stick onto a wide mouthed jar of your choice.
