This is a terrific look at a man all dressed up as King George of England (I’m guessing either George III or IV). His costume is absolutely beautiful. His velvet coat and knee britches are decorated with beautiful embroidery, his white shirt is a mass of ruffles and his patent leather shoes have huge buckles on them. He even has an Order of the Garter wrapped around one stockinged calf. A large ornamental sword hangs at his side, and a powdered wig completes his outfit. Handwritten at the top of the reverse is “George R-1875”. Written at the bottom is “Charles M. Saunders from Fred W. Joy”.
Photographer is “T. & J. Holroyd” of Harrogate (England).
The image is beautifully crisp and clear (you can make out every detail of that beautiful outfit), but does show some dark colored spots of soiling and some light colored spots, probably from glue seepage. The card is in very good condition.
